I thought the theme of December’s NaBloPoMo was a fitting theme to kickstart my daily blogging, seeing how this website is partially intended (in the long-run) to showcase my writing skills to the professional world.
The theme is Work. And writing is work, no matter how much you love it. Sometimes, it comes easily and the words just flow faster than you can type, and infinitely faster than you can write – which is why I struggle with penning snail mail now, even though I’m sentimental about the medium.
But yes, sometimes it’s hard work. Writer’s block is hard work. Creativity under a deadline is hard work. The trick, they say, is to just push through and come up with at least something, no matter how rubbish that something turns out to be.
I’d fallen out of the habit of writing frequently. I’ve been making time for a daily journal since I was seven, but somehow I became an adult and lost the impetus to take time out of Life to write about it. I don’t think I’ve ever stopped writing honestly, which is what I’m more thankful for. Still, I could do with more consistency.
And so I’m taking up this challenge. Which is huge-ish for me, by the way, because December has Christmas, and New Year, and lots of holiday-taking in between. But at least you’ll keep me honest, won’t you.
